An Unexpected Collaboration in Las Vegas | #DareToLive

I recently made my way to Las Vegas, family in tow, to have my first ever Blue Man Group experience.

And boy howdy was it ever an experience.

We hit the road on Friday afternoon, our eyes set on a quick, desert drive to Las Vegas, our final destination being Luxor Hotel and Casino. Dylan and I spent the drive playing our favorite time filling game, “Would You Rather?”, singing along to the radio and taking in the beauty of the journey beyond the window.

After checking into the hotel, we made our way up to our room. Talk about a hotel room that will make a nine year old boy lose his mind. There’s not much better than a hotel room bed to jump on. Except maybe a view out the window of a giant, glowing pyramid at night. That will do it even for the grown ups, if we’re being really real about it.

One of the natural highlights for me was all that Luxor Hotel and Casino had to offer under one roof. There was a food court for quick bites, a handful of table service dining options, on site exhibits, shopping, THREE STARBUCKS and the main event on this trip, Blue Man Group.

After spending the day exploring a bit of Las Vegas, we got ready for dinner that evening at Tacos and Tequila before heading to the Behind the Blue experience. We noshed on the tasty queso fundido because, hello, I’ve never met a skillet fried cheese I didn’t love. Mom and Dad enjoyed a nice cocktail and the tasty chicken tostada bowl for dinner. What I loved most about the restaurant was that it was located right next to the theater for Blue Man Group. We didn’t have to trek far after dinner to get ready to head Behind the Blue.

Behind the Blue

Behind the Blue was an amazing thing that I definitely recommend to anyone, like myself, who isn’t well-versed on the origins and mission of Blue Man Group. Being matched up with a knowledgable tour guide who walked us through the story of where everything started in New York City, all the way up to the current expanse of the show and experience across the world was awesome. The walls were wrapped with amazing photographs from the lifetime of the three original Blue Men, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton. I don’t want to give away the goose on this one because there’s something inexplicable about learning and seeing these things in-person. The energy is beyond proper explanation.

After the story of the history and the growth, we were able to head onstage to learn about the pieces used in the show. I won’t say much because I’m all about teasing and enticing you with the fun and power of the experience you must see for yourself. But here are a few fun photos I took on our journey. Including the one of me in the ever-attractive, someone-forgot-to-wear-closed-toe-footwear blue Crocs.

Now the Blue Man Group show itself really left me speechless. I didn’t know what to expect at all walking into the theater and taking my seat, but the collaboration among the crowd of strangers was immediate. The energy was high and positive. Something I don’t think we get to feel much as we go throughout or daily lives these days. Working together, laughing together, feeling and being together wasn’t like anything else. Dylan’s face was aglow, even beyond the blacklight, from the moment we sat our butts in our chairs. I’ve never seem him so enthralled and captivated by what was happening onstage and in the crowd. The show was so interactive there was certainly no option for dozing or snoozing or wanting to miss a second of the experience.

The most powerful part of the show was truly seeing the reaction of humanity as a whole. As the shepherds of the events, through music, comedy and movement, the Blue Men managed to evoke a sense of togetherness from every single attendee. I’ll be so bold as to say that even within our own family unit, the takeaways and impact of the show is vastly different for each of us. I think it will take me a good while to fully process the awesome time I had. I’m already planning my next trip to see the show again.

But hey. You. Yeah you. Want to experience Blue Man Group in Las Vegas for yourself? I’d like to give you two tickets to see the show at Luxor Hotel and Casino. All you need to do to enter is answer the question below. That’s all. I’ll choose a lucky winner on Tuesday, May 23rd.
